WONDERWOOD EXPRESSWAY

CSI Geo is providing quality assurance site inspection and construction materials testing on this project, as well as pile driving and drilled shaft inspections. CSI Geo staff has been servicing this job with highly qualified inspectors and senior inspectors. The project consists of widening the existing roadway to four lanes, divided with landscaped median, bike lanes and sidewalks. Project also involved construction of a bridge on Monument Road over Ginhouse Creek.

CSI Geo is performing quality control testing and construction materials inspection including in place EZ Base, EZBase/Soil blends and Soils, compaction testing (nuclear density), concrete sampling and testing, asphalt roadway and plant inspections. Laboratory tests including EZBase and soils proctors, and concrete cylinder breaks have been performed.

BEACH BLVD. INTRACOASTAL

The purpose of this project is to widen Beach Boulevard from four lanes to six lanes between San Pablo Road and Penman Road, including the replacement of two existing two-lane draw bridges with high level bridges of three lanes each. This will ease traffic flow while allowing larger boats to use the ways without interfering with traffic.

CSI Geo staff performed quality control testing and construction materials inspection including in place soil compaction testing (nuclear density), concrete sampling and testing, asphalt roadway and plant inspections. Laboratory tests including soils proctors, and concrete cylinder breaks were performed. CSI Geo staff provided technical guidance to city personnel and resolved constructability problems when they arise. The new northern bridge recently opened. Total project construction is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2009.

CONNECTOR/MERRILL ROAD

The design-build project consisted of improvements to the Southside Connector-Merrill Road intersection. The construction carried Southside Connector from its past horizontal location over Merrill Road by means of an overpass bridge, highfill embankments, and a fill retaining system, which includes on/off-ramps for both northbound and southbound traffic.

CSI Geo staff provided the necessary site and laboratory soils testing for the roadway, bridge embankments, drainage piping, and other structures; and the necessary concrete compressive strength testing for the substructures and superstructure. Soils testing included in-place density tests, determination of Atterburg limits, limerock bearing ratios, gradation and Proctors.

JACKSONVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTBEACH BLVD. INTRACOASTAL

This project consisted of an expansion and renovation of the baggage handling system and explosive detection system. It also included selective demolition and new construction for the modifications and additions to the building and infrastructure of the electrical, mechanical, structural and architectural components. Other areas included structural foundations, structural steel framework and utility work, demolition of aircraft rated apron concrete pavement and subsurface, new asphalt pavement and concrete pavement, concrete retaining walls, new ductile iron utility piping and underground electrical duct bank and temporary storm drainage systems for Concourses A&C. The project construction process was phased to provide the airport with minimal disruption.

CSI Geo staff provided quality control testing and inspection services in the areas of bituminous asphalt concrete (P-401), concrete pavement (P-501), soils and aggregates and structural concrete testing. The project was staffed with experienced inspector and senior inspectors for the various categories of testing. Tests performed included in place soil compaction testing (nuclear density), concrete sampling and testing and asphalt roadway. Laboratory tests including soils proctors, and concrete cylinder breaks were performed. CSI Geo staff provided technical guidance to city personnel and resolved constructability problems when they arose.

 KERNAN BOULEVARD IMPROVEMENTS

CSI Geo staff performed all the laboratory testing and geotechnical investigation tasks needed for this project. The improvements included the widening of Kernan Boulevard to six travel lanes (three in each direction), construction of a bridge overpass over Beach Boulevard, and construction of MSE walls. Other roadway improvements include the construction of a box culvert, a retention pond, mast arm signal structures, and overhead signs.

Field investigation included auger and core borings, soil sampling, laboratory testing, geotechnical analysis, and design. Laboratory testing included LBRs, compaction tests, standard index testing, and environmental corrosion testing. The design of foundation systems for the bridge structure included the selection of the most feasible and economical alternative, development of construction recommendations, and performance of pile driveability analyses. Other tasks included the design of MSE walls, soils data analysis, evaluation, and recommendations for the proposed interchange improvements including recommendations to aid in pavement design, construction guidelines for the roadway system, and report preparation.
