TROUT RIVER BRIDGE/I-95
This project consists of the widening of one major bridge on I-95 (from 4 lanes to 6 lanes), over the Trout River. The project involves construction of a new Trout River Bridge which is situated on I-95 in a heavy traffic area between downtown and the airport, construction widening three overpasses at Moncrief Creek, Lem Turner and Edgewood, rehabilitating the pavement, constructing retaining walls, and proactively addressing environmental concerns (wetlands, manatees, and permit compliance). Two lanes are being added to I-95 from south of Lem Turner Road (SR 115) to Zoo Parkway (SR 105), a total of 2.7 miles.
The new Trout River Bridge was built with the southbound bridge on the west side, switching traffic over, and finishing up with the east side of the bridge for northbound traffic. CSI Geo staff performed quality control testing and construction materials inspection including in place soil compaction testing (nuclear density), concrete sampling and testing and inspections. Laboratory tests including soils proctors, and concrete cylinder breaks were performed and reporting the results into the LIMS database. CSI Geo staff provided technical guidance to FDOT personnel and helped resolved constructability problems when they arise. The project was performed under direct supervision of a team of professional engineers from CSI who monitored the field operations on a daily basis.

I-95 WIDENING
CSI Geo staff provided contractor quality control services including quality assurance site inspection and construction materials testing for this project from 2006 to 2008. CSI Geo staff performed quality control testing and construction materials inspection including in place soil compaction testing (nuclear density), concrete sampling and testing, asphalt roadway. Laboratory tests including soils proctors, and concrete cylinder breaks were performed. Our staff provided technical guidance to FDOT personnel and resolved constructability problems.
The project consisted of repairing, resurfacing and widening from 4 to 6 lanes Interstate 95 over a span of 3.7 miles from Heckscher Drive to I-295 and constructing a new concrete pavement by converting the grassed median into a third travel lane in each direction. The existing asphalt shoulders were milled and resurfaced to provide temporary pavement during construction. The project also involved replacement of defective concrete slabs on the existing roadway, reconstruction and/or grinding of all concrete roadway surfaces, addition of new highway lighting within the project limits and construction of 5 storm water treatment ponds.

This project was divided into three individual design build projects for a total of 35 miles through St. Johns County. The project involved the widening of I-95 from four to six lanes including bridge widenings, subgrade and limerock base, asphalt base, drainage structures, embankments, curb & gutter, traffic separator, sidewalks, signing and pavement markings, signalization and maintenance of traffic. Services included verification testing for soils asphalt, limerock and concrete materials for the FDOT. The project is considered (by FDOT) as a pilot project for the implementation of the QC-2000 Method. In addition, construction engineering inspection personnel provided identical services for the contractor on other portions of the projects.
